Founding Engineer at Toolkit

Join Toolkit as a Founding Engineer and build the AI-native IDE for finance. As employee #7, you will architect agent orchestration infrastructure and high-scale reconciliation engines that automate day-long workflows in minutes. If you are an elite engineer looking to 10x your velocity using cutting-edge AI tools while maintaining rigorous fundamentals in an in-person San Francisco environment, this is your opportunity to own a massive segment of a frontier product.

About this role

Role overview

As employee #7, you will build the world's first agent orchestration platform specifically for finance. You'll design sophisticated systems that allow AI agents to navigate GAAP rules and complex multi-step workflows. This role is perfect for engineers who want to 10x their velocity using AI while maintaining elite engineering fundamentals.

About the company

Toolkit

Toolkit

Software

Toolkit's mission is to eliminate grunt work in every company, starting with finance teams. Finance teams waste 25-50% of their year on grunt work due to siloed data. Our product (in private alpha) reconciles data across all sources and makes it easy to analyse in Excel.

We are a deeply technical team obsessed with the unglamorous problem of inefficiencies in every company. We are backed by Entrepreneur First and the fund behind Brex, Snowflake, and Anduril, with a $3.4M seed round raised in December 2024.

Hiring for Founding Engineers in-person in San Francisco.

What you'll do

What you will do

  • Architect agent orchestration infrastructure that maintains deep context and institutional knowledge across complex, multi-step financial workflows.
  • Build a high-performance reconciliation engine capable of processing millions of rows and ingesting real-time data from ERP, CRM, and HRIS systems.
  • Ship weekly customer-facing features based on direct feedback from CFOs, iterating rapidly on the balance between human direction and AI execution.

The ideal candidate:

  • Proven experience designing scalable system abstractions and building robust scaffolds that ensure high-quality code outputs at scale.
  • Passion for AI-frontier development and a desire to master the use of coding agents to radically accelerate engineering cycles without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong product intuition with the ability to break down complex financial problems into parallelizable work streams and autonomous agent tasks.

Why this role

  • Unique opportunity to define "AI-native engineering" by building internal systems that leverage coding agents to ship mission-critical financial infrastructure at frontier speeds.
