Head of Talent at $25M-funded AI safety nonprofit startup

You will lead the ambitious effort to triple a high-impact team, hiring 20 exceptional people over the next year. As a strategic partner to the CEO, you’ll build the recruiting infrastructure from scratch, map the AI safety landscape, and personally close top-tier talent from major AI labs and startups.

• Source relentlessly through cold outreach, events, and deep networks to build a pipeline of 50+ qualified candidates in Ashby.
• Own the end-to-end candidate experience, maintaining a first-choice offer acceptance rate of ≥80% through persuasive, mission-driven closing.
• Dramatically accelerate hiring speed, reducing the median time from first contact to accepted offer to four weeks or less.

• Proven track record of closing elite, hard-to-get candidates in competitive markets without relying solely on high compensation packages.
• Exceptional taste for talent, with the ability to identify high-agency, mission-aligned individuals who thrive in high-ambiguity startup environments.
• Rapid landscape mapping skills, ideally with existing knowledge of the AI safety, biosecurity, or effective altruism professional ecosystems.

• Direct CEO-level partnership with total autonomy to design the company’s hiring systems and employer brand from the ground up.
