You will bridge the gap between human care and automated systems. As the 'last patient coordinator,' you’ll handle complex patient needs that AI cannot yet solve, then write code and design workflows to automate those solutions. It’s a unique hybrid of customer experience and engineering aimed at scaling care through technology.
Forward Deployed Engineer at Doctours
Join Doctours, a mission-driven startup founded by an ex-Meta engineer that’s revolutionizing medical tourism to help 100M Americans access affordable care. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll act as the human fallback for complex patient needs, then immediately write code to automate those solutions. This isn’t a support job; it’s a builder role designed to eliminate repetitive work through AI and systems thinking. If you have 1-3 years of experience and want to own a problem end-to-end while making a massive impact on global healthcare accessibility, this $100k-$150k NYC-based role is for you.
About this role
Role overview
About the company
Doctours (doctours.com) is a medical tourism marketplace. The platform allows users to compare, book, and pay for medical procedures at clinics around the world. It aggregates verified clinics, providing information such as pricing, services offered, and patient reviews to help individuals find suitable providers for overseas hair restoration treatment. Doctours facilitates the end-to-end process of researching options and arranging treatment with international clinics, positioning itself as the specialized medical tourism service.
What you'll do
What you will do
- Act as the human fallback for patient conversations when AI systems fail, providing empathetic support for people undergoing significant medical procedures.
- Diagnose the root cause of system failures and implement permanent fixes using code, workflow edits, or prompt engineering.
- Build out the initial automation infrastructure for the clinic-side of the business to streamline global operations as Doctours expands into oncology and orthopedics.
Who you are
Who this is a fit for
- You have 1–3 years of experience in high-stakes environments like healthcare or customer success and can stay calm when patients are nervous or overwhelmed.
- You possess a builder’s mindset and are comfortable using AI coding tools and system-thinking to automate tasks rather than managing them manually.
- You are an empathetic communicator who understands that medical travel is a significant life event, ensuring patients feel cared for rather than just processed.
Why this role
Why this role is remarkable
- You’ll work directly with the CEO (ex-Meta) in a high-ownership environment where you split your time between solving patient problems and building the technical systems to prevent them.
- This role is designed to eliminate its own repetitive tasks; as the company grows, you spend less time reacting and more time building foundational automation for new medical verticals.
- You are joining a mission-driven startup tackling the $100M+ medical debt crisis, with the opportunity to own the patient and clinic experience end-to-end from day one.
