Role overview
Outro Health is a virtual, evidence-based antidepressant tapering clinic and platform that helps patients safely reduce and come off antidepressant medications under the guidance of expert clinicians.[1][5][8] The company focuses on personalized, medically supervised tapering plans that use a hyperbolic tapering method, where dose reductions become progressively smaller over time to minimize nervous system disruption and withdrawal symptoms.[1][2] Co-founded by world-leading deprescribing expert Dr. Mark Horowitz, Outro combines telehealth visits with clinicians, ongoing monitoring, and educational resources to create flexible tapering schedules tailored to each patient’s medication history, symptom profile, and goals.[1][2][5][8] The service currently specializes in taper management for antidepressant medications such as duloxetine, escitalopram, sertraline, and venlafaxine, aiming to provide a safer, more comfortable, and more affordable alternative to traditional approaches to stopping these drugs.[2][6][8]
What you will do
- Architect and build end-to-end features using TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js, scaling the platform from its early stages to a robust production system.
- Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile experiences with React Native, ensuring seamless, medically-safe communication between patients and their specialized clinical teams.
- Collaborate directly with the founders in an onsite NYC environment to iterate on product requirements, pharmacy logistics, and internal operations tooling.
Who this is a fit for
- Proven experience as an early-stage or founding engineer (ideally #1-5) who has successfully built and scaled products from near-zero in high-ambiguity environments.
- Deep technical proficiency across the modern TypeScript stack, including React, Node.js, and GCP, with a preference for candidates from the health-tech sector.
- Strong bias for action and local presence in NYC, ready to work onsite 5 days a week in a fast-paced, collaborative startup setting.
Why this role is remarkable
- Join as the second engineer, gaining significant influence over the technical architecture, product direction, and foundational engineering culture from day one.
- Work on a deeply impactful product co-founded by Dr. Mark Horowitz, a leading global authority on deprescribing and co-author of the Maudsley Guidelines.
- Tackle high-complexity engineering challenges including pharmacy integrations, AI-native clinician workflows, and high-stakes patient-facing mobile experiences in an underserved medical niche.
