Head of Retail at Cubitts

The optical industry hasn’t changed in three centuries, but this design-led independent brand is fixing it. We are looking for a Head of Retail to lead an 18-store UK portfolio and a high-performing operations team. If you are a customer-obsessed leader who values craft over upselling and wants to own a full P&L for a profitable, growing business, this is a rare chance to leave a lasting mark on a physical retail estate. You'll report directly to the MD and join a culture built on transparency, pride, and pioneering spirit. With a £72,252 salary and unique perks like spectacle-making classes, it's time to lead retail the right way.

About this role

Role overview

Lead a growing portfolio of 18 UK stores and a dedicated retail operations team. You will drive a customer-centric culture that rejects traditional sales tactics in favor of genuine craft and service. Reporting to the MD, you’ll own the P&L and ensure every physical touchpoint delivers a world-class brand experience.

About the company

Cubitts is an independent spectacle maker founded in King’s Cross, London, in 2013, dedicated to modernising the three‑century‑old spectacles industry by combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design and technology. The company designs and manufactures high-quality spectacles and sunglasses intended to outlast their wearers, using carefully selected materials such as premium acetate, stainless steel, rolled gold, titanium and horn. Cubitts offers a full optical service including eye examinations, fitting, adjustments, repairs, made‑to‑measure and bespoke frames, and promotes a circular approach with services and repairs for life to reduce waste and extend product longevity. With physical stores in the UK and internationally and online sales via cubitts.com, Cubitts positions itself as “the modern spectacle maker,” aiming to democratise fit, challenge disposable fashion culture, and transform how people choose, own and care for their eyewear.

What you'll do

  • Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Store Managers and the retail support office to maintain a 90+ NPS score.
  • Act as the primary bridge between physical stores and London HQ, translating brand values into daily operational excellence and visual merchandising standards.

Who you are

Who this is a fit for

  • Proven multi-site leadership experience managing 15+ premium retail locations with a hands-on approach to coaching and store presence.
  • Strong commercial acumen with expertise in sales forecasting, ROI analysis for new store openings, and managing complex retail budgets.
  • Deep alignment with design-led brands and a track record of building customer-first cultures within the premium or independent retail sectors.

Why this role

Why this role is remarkable

  • Lead the retail strategy for a profitable, independent brand that is actively disrupting the stagnant £3bn optical industry through superior design and craft.
  • True leadership autonomy with a seat at the table during weekly board meetings to influence channel growth and company-wide financial planning.
  • Exceptional culture centered on the "For All" value: zero ego, no politics, and a strict no-upselling policy that prioritizes long-term customer relationships.
